When you think of cycling from Melbourne to Ocean Grove, you might picture a long, gruelling ride down the Princes Freeway. But we took a different approach - one filled with scenic trails, coastal views, craft breweries, and delicious food. This five-day e-bike adventure was the perfect blend of exploration, relaxation, and indulgence.
All the gear & a little bit of an idea!
The bikes: Focus E-Bike & yes we managed to pack 5 days worth of clothing into tiny bags on the back of the bike.
Day 1 – 40km: Melbourne to Ocean Grove
We started our adventure by hopping on the Craigieburn line to Southern Cross Station, where we transferred to the VLine train to South Geelong. The staff on the train to Geelong were super helpful and it was easy to store the bikes on the train. After 1 hour, we arrived at South Geelong station and amazingly we were just a stone’s throw from Little Creatures Brewery, an excellent first stop to fuel up with a refreshing pint.
From there, we joined the Bellarine Rail Trail, a scenic, 35km off-road cycling and walking trail that follows the path of a former railway line from South Geelong to Queenscliff, leading us all the way to Ocean Grove. We checked into our Airbnb, which was located just five minutes from the beach, before heading out to Blackman’s Brewery. The night ended with a cheese platter at our Airbnb, enjoying the incredible ocean views we had from our balcony.
Day 2 – 45km: High Tea and Cider
We kicked off the day with a morning coffee in Ocean Grove before embarking on our ride to Campbell Point House for a delicious & luxurious high tea experience. The relaxed setting and delicious treats were a welcome break from the saddle all whilst overlooking Lake Connewarre.
On the way back, we made a stop at Flying Brick Cider, a must-visit for cider lovers, where we enjoyed a tasting paddle before riding back to Ocean Grove. Dinner that evening was at a Kala Greek restaurant in Ocean Grove.
Day 3 – 45km: Winery and Distillery Day
There’s no better way to start a coastal morning than with a dip in the ocean. Energised and refreshed, we set out for a winery tour, beginning with lunch and a tasting at Scotchmans Hill Winery. The panoramic views and exceptional wines made for a dreamy afternoon.
We continued to The Whiskery, a rustic and charming distillery offering top-notch gin and whisky tastings. After a day of indulgence, we cycled back to Ocean Grove, taking in the golden hues of the setting sun.
Day 4 – 46km: Exploring Queenscliff & Barwon Heads
Despite a bit of morning drizzle, we braved the elements for another ocean dip—because why not? Our ride took us to Queenscliff, with stops at Point Lonsdale Lighthouse and the ferry terminal, where we watched the ferries come and go.
A quick snack from Farm Foods Queenscliff fueled us up before heading back towards Barwon Heads. We cycled to Barwon Bluff Lookout, where the rugged coastline and powerful waves left us in awe. A happy hour stop at The Dunes in Ocean Grove made for the perfect sunset moment. Our final dinner of the trip was at Ming Terrace, where we shared a feast of Chinese dishes.
Day 5 – 38km: The Journey Back
With bags packed, we hopped back on the Bellarine Rail Trail, making our way towards Geelong one last time. A mid-morning coffee stop at First Chapter Coffee in Moolap gave us an extra boost before reaching South Geelong Station, where we boarded the VLine train back to Melbourne.

Total Trip = 214km
This trip was an incredible way to experience the beauty of the Bellarine Peninsula at a slower, more immersive pace. From breweries to beaches, wineries to lookouts, this e-bike adventure blended the best of the region into five unforgettable days with no car needed!
